49 and 31 yards,Nick Folk missed three field goals for Tampa Bay as the Patriots managed to escape with a 19-14 victory over the Buccaneers. Folk missed from 56, forcing the offense to score touchdowns they would not have needed otherwise to grab the lead. Folk’s misses from 56 and 49 yards weren’t particularly close either. His miss from 31 yards wide left with less than six minutes remaining was the final blow. A make there would have allowed the chance for a game-winning field goal try in the closing seconds instead of a throw for the end zone.

Folk isn’t trying to dodge the blame for his misses.

20-19,” Folk said,“We should have won the game,” via Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times. “So this one’s on me.”

It’s not all on Folk. Cameron Brate dropped a touchdown pass before Folk’s final miss from 31 yards that would have made it a 16-14 game. Jameis Winston scored on a 3-yard scramble only to have that touchdown negated by an illegal hands to the face penalty on center Evan Smith. Either one of those scores would have enable the Buccaneers to have a greater chance to winning the game.

Instead, Folk’s third miss two plays later carried a greater significance.

The Buccaneers had hoped they’d found their kicker for the foreseeable future when they selected Roberto Aguayo in the second round of last year’s NFL Draft.

Aguayo missed nine of 31 field goal attempts and missed a pair of extra point tries last year with Tampa Bay. His struggles led the team to bring in Folk to compete in training camp. As he continued to falter, the Buccaneers released Aguayo and gave the job to Folk.

Folk has now missed five kicks in the last two games. The Buccaneers will have an extra few days prior to their next game against the Arizona Cardinals to assess what other options are available to them given the continued missteps of their kicking game.

Patriots-Buccaneers Film Review: How New England Fixed Defensive Issues

It didn’t take wholesale changes to fix the New England Patriots’ defense Thursday night, just slight tweaks.

The Patriots’ defense looked beyond saving just four days prior as they fell to the Carolina Panthers 33-30 at home. Given their communication issues, there’s was legitimate chance the Patriots’ secondary previously could have accidentally left a Foxboro High School receiver open for a touchdown.

But — for three quarters, at least — the Patriots’ defense was unrecognizable in Week 5 as they beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 19-14.

The Patriots let up just 104 yards through the air and 76 on the ground for the first three quarters while holding the Buccaneers to seven points. They allowed 215 yards passing and 14 yards rushing in the fourth quarter as they moved to off-man coverages to prevent big plays and long touchdowns. Sometimes the end of a game is just as much about bleeding out the clock as it is about preventing every possible reception.

So, what happened? How did the Patriots’ defense go from allowing 33 points one week to 14 the next?

the Patriots fixed the communication issues in their secondary by having cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who was in the middle of many of those problems, shadow Bucs top receiver Mike Evans. It worked. There were no blatant communication issues, and Evans only caught five passes on eight targets for 49 yards. Gilmore only strayed from Evans on one passing play,First, which came late in the second quarter, when the Buccaneers aligned in a bunch formation. Many of the Patriots’ Week 3 issues came against bunch formations.

while Malcolm Butler, Jonathan Jones and Patrick Chung swapped receivers post snap from the bunch,Womens Mike Evans Jersey, covering the receiver whose route coincided with their pre-snap alignment. Devin McCourty,Gilmore covered tight end Cameron Brate on the opposite side of the field, lined up as the strong safety,Womens O. J. Howard Jersey, dropped down to help out on Evans and Brate.

Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston was sacked by Trey Flowers and Kyle Van Noy.

who was in the bunch, this time. Gilmore, Chung and Devin McCourty didn’t swap receivers post snap and had their side of the field covered correctly. Butler gave wide receiver DeSean Jackson too large of a cushion, and he sprung for a 41-yard catch and run. Safety Duron Harmon took an less-than-ideal angle on the play,Womens Justin Evans Jersey,The Buccaneers also came out in a bunch early in the fourth quarter. Gilmore lined up across from Evans, and Chung continued chasing his receiver well after the catch was made, allowing for the big play.

Tight end OJ Howard aligned out wide then motioned inside. McCourty slid over with him and Chung moved up to stagger the defensive alignment to make sure no one collided off the snap.

Patriots-Buccaneers Takeaways: Secondary Responds With Impressive Showing

the New England Patriots’ defense passed the all-important “eye test” in their win Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,Unlike much of last season,Womens Kendell Beckwith Jersey, while the raw numbers don’t look quite as impressive.

but their secondary deserves some slack. The Patriots changed up their coverages late in the game,The Patriots allowed 334 yards through the air to Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, when Winston threw for most of those yards. And Bill Belichick seemed impressed by the unit after the game.

Here are this week’s charting stats.

Winners and losers from ‘Thursday Night Football’ in Week 5

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosted the New England Patriots to get Week 5 kicked off on Thursday Night Football, and it was quite a sloppy game.

Highlights: Patriots take down Bucs

which is not easy to do on a short week. Now they move to 3-2 on the season and have 10 days to fix what ails them. Tampa Bay, on the other hand,The Patriots weren’t at their best but pulled out a 19-14 win on the road, has some serious stuff to figure out after dropping to 2-2 on the season.

These were the biggest winners and losers from Thursday Night Football in Week 5.

Winner: Tom Brady rebounds from early, rare mistake

and Justin Evans was practically gifted the pick. It was Brady’s first road interception since Week 16 of the 2015 season,Tom Brady threw an interception in the first quarter that made us do a double-take. It was awful. There were no Patriots receivers around the ball, and we wondered if the Buccaneers were on their way to an easy win.

Yeah, that didn’t happen.

to say the least. At one point he completed 13 straight passes and kept New England’s offense rolling, despite being under fire all night long (more on that in a bit). The 40-year-old wonder finished the game with 303 yards on 30-of-40 passing with one touchdown and the one interception. It wasn’t his flashiest game,Brady rebounded, but in an ugly contest he came out of it with the win and a pretty good overall performance.

from their own 22-yard line. In the end, they were able to get a field goal attempt out of the effort. But it had nothing to do with Jameis Winston’s brilliance or a big play by Doug Martin. Instead,The end of first half of Thursday night’s game was an embarrassment for everyone involved. The Bucs were trying to get down the field with 35 seconds left on the clock, the final drive of the first half was an epic debacle

and if we’re being honest, the game went on like nothing happened, ejections could have been levied. Instead, but clearly tempers were flaring. That led very nicely into the next two plays, which resulted in 30 yards of field position in favor of the Buccaneers. How did this happen, you ask? Well,It started with a sideline scuffle involving DeSean Jackson and Malcolm Butler. Punches were thrown, it’s easy. The Pats were hit with roughing the passer penalties on two consecutive plays. Tampa Bay wasn’t doing anything to get downfield, but those two penalties gave the Bucs life they didn’t really deserve.

his kick was atrocious. Not even close, as he pushed it about 20 yards to the right of the uprights. To be fair,This led to a 56-yard attempt by Nick Folk that could have cut the lead to three points. But just like everything else that happened on this drive, it was a long attempt into the wind,Authentic Mike Evans Jersey, but he looked more like Montgomery Burns on this one than an NFL kicker.

at the start of the fourth quarter, Folk had another chance to put points on the board. The Bucs were just nine points down when he attempted a 49-yard field goal and shanked it to the left. Then, later in the fourth quarter,Authentic O. J. Howard Jersey,Then later in the game, he missed a chip shot, hooking that one to the left just like one before it.

In a five-point game, Folk’s three misses were the difference between winning and losing for the Bucs.

there wasn’t a defense in the NFL worse than the one residing in New England. The Patriots were allowing 456.8 yards total,Authentic Justin Evans Jersey,For three weeks, 324 yards through the air and 32 points per game on average.

say, the Kansas City Chiefs or Los Angeles Rams,Womens Chris Godwin Jersey, but the Bucs have some very dangerous weapons on offense. So,Tampa Bay hasn’t been roasting teams like, this one felt like it could get out of hand early, especially after Brady coughed up that early interception.

Instead,Authentic DeSean Jackson Jersey, the Patriots locked down Jameis Winston and Co. with a stellar effort in the first half.

it’s safe to say the Patriots’ defense contributed to the win for the first time all year,While the Bucs did manage to get some positive things going in the second half through the air, even right down to the wire when they nearly picked off Jameis Winston on the game’s final play.

Loser: Patriots’ offensive line not protecting Tom Brady

Tom Brady hasn’t been hit as often as he is this year in quite some time. Womens DeSean Jackson Jersey, Before the third quarter was up Thursday night, he had been sacked one more time in 2017 than he was all of last season.

CBS’ color man Thursday night, mentioned multiple times that he feels like maybe Solder is injured because of the way he’s performing. Whatever the reason,One of the biggest reasons is that blind-side protector Nate Solder is not playing at the same level we’ve seen in the past. Tony Romo,Authentic Kendell Beckwith Jersey, it’s clear this is a player who is not carrying his weight.

The offensive line also committed penalties that are uncharacteristic of the units of years past in New England. Solder was responsible for a couple significant penalties that cost the Patriots, Authentic Chris Godwin Jersey,as were others.

Brady had to escape pressure numerous times.

but that was on the offensive line. The right tackle never picked up the blitzing linebacker, who had a free shot at Brady. And at the age of 40,Brady coughed up a fumble at one point in the third quarter, he cannot afford to get hit like this on a regular basis.

Physical Gold

Protect yourself and family from central bank currency debasement and inflation in asset prices, housing, food. There are rising levels of financial, economic and geopolitical risk in the world. In the last 100 years, all currencies have lost 97-99% of their purchasing power. Some believe that the final move to zero will take place in the next few years.

Currency debasement through money printing is the destruction of fiat money purchasing power - $, €, ¥, £, yuan, Venezuelan Bolívar, Argentine Peso, Zimbabwean Dollar...

True inflation and cost of living is currently 8% higher than the government reports. Real wages are falling rapidly and most people are taking out more and more debt to make ends meet. Only the wealthy minority and banks benefit from the current system.

Protect yourself. Buy physical, allocated gold, silver, platinum online and store it in safe vaults outside your jurisdiction (Switzerland, UK, USA, Canada and Singapore) or, at home. Physical gold has limited supply. Buy before the panic!

Look what happened in Cyprus (2013), Greece (2015) and Spain (Catalonia 2017). The lesson is that the money in your bank account is not really yours. It can be taken or frozen by the government just when you need it. Maybe it is not a good idea to keep too much money in the bank, especially when the next financial crisis comes!
